Compare Satellite TV Packages VS Cable TV
July 29th, 2010 |
Satellite TV providers such as DirecTV and Dish Network are not bound by the physical limitation of cable lines, which has many disadvantages. One of these is lower overhead costs than cable companies, and because of this, satellite TV providers are able to offer competitive rates to their subscribers.
Let’s take Comcast and Time Warner Cable for instance. Comcast’s monthly charges may range from $56 to $62 for its Digital Starter package; $72 to $78 for its Digital Preferred; and $105 to $130 for its Digital Premier, depending on area or location. Other costs like equipment fees and security deposits, installation charges, franchise fees may apply. Cable subscribers should check first the services their getting because not all programming also varies per area. Time Warner Cable on the other hand, offers over 200 channels for $49.95 on the first year, then the local standard fees after. In order to get digital cable, get ready to pay additional fees like expanded cable, cable box, digital intro fee, etc.
Satellite TV comparison between Direct TV and Dish Network usually involve costing and the programming since the terms of equipment for the two providers are typically the same. The subscribers can use their satellite TV equipment, free of charge (usually on the first receiver only). They just need to return it should they wish to terminate their agreements. Direct TV offers 4 basic packages: Choice, Choice Extra, Choice Unlimited and the Premier package. Their promotional prices are $29.99, $34.99, $39.99 and $85.99 respectively. Come the subsequent year, subscribers pay $29 more and that’s it. The package starts with over 150 all-digital channels up to over 285 and more. Dish Network also has 4 basic English packages: that’s America’s Top 120, America’s Top 200, America’s Top 250 and America’s Everything Pack. Dish Networks rates start at $19.99, $32.99, $42.99 and $84.99 respectively for the first 12 months. Subsequent months would cost them $15 more, which are all stated in the customers’ contracts. The channel ranges of Dish Network’s packages starts with over 120 all-digital channels up to over 295.
Satellite TV subscribers are free to add, upgrade or order a la carte according to their viewing preferences and budget restriction. So which one is the better choice? I say go with the satellite TV service.
