Watch the History Channel on Satellite TV

December 29th, 2008 |

The History Channel is one of the most informative stations that you can find on satellite TV, and in that sense it has carved out a comfortable niche for itself in modern programming. The academic approach that it takes to all of its content is admirable and sets it apart in a sea of mediocrity. Below is a brief description of what most consider to be the station’s most notable shows:

Cities of the Underground: join Don as he discovers the forgotten underbellies of many of the world’s most ancient cities. Though squeezing through dank tunnels and noxious chambers who knows how far beneath the surface doesn’t sound very appealing, this guy does it in style, and treats us to some amazing revelations at the same time.

Shadow Force: if fighting bad guys and protecting the innocent were sports, the crew on this show would collectively be their MVPs. This show offers a rare insight into the world of private security contracting and private military operations. Always protecting others, it’s great to watch these people put their prior experiences in the armed forces (generally, but not exclusively) to good use for the benefit of a greater cause.

Ice Road Truckers: in honor of the men that give this show its name, the History Channel has provided the counterweight to Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch. And these guys are larger than life and tougher than nails: you’d have to be to withstand the conditions that they work in day in and day out. If you’re lucky enough to watch this on a high definition set, you’ll be awed by the breath-taking panoramic shots of the Canadian and Alaskan hinterland.

Jurassic Fight Club: this show is awesome, and a great way to get the kids interested in some good old natural history lessons. With match-ups between the nastiest beasts that ever roamed the earth, you’ll be blown away by the awesome computer animation. This show is another must-see with HD (though beware, the impression on smaller kids will verge on frightening!).

UFO Hunters: do you sleep comfortably at night? Not any more. UFO Hunters will implant in your mind the seed of doubt and suspicion as to whether we occupy the universe in solitude or not. With utter rigor and professionalism, the experts on this show go a long ways on the road to proving that there is serious evidence of extraterrestrial life, or at least something really weird going on here! Only watch this show if you can handle the heavy notion that the heavens aren’t empty.
